Visiting NCC

Jeremy and I went on a great college visit with Annah today! 

Jeremy was pretty excited to be at NCC.  He loved his 2 years on campus there.

After we checked in at the Admission Office, we were taken to observe a Musical Theatre and Dance class.  We met the professor, and she had been told we were coming and chose a variety of things for the students to do today so Annah could see a lot!  She invited Annah to join in, but Annah explained that she has no dance experience and she just told us to relax and enjoy and ask as many questions as we could think of.

This was a class of freshman and sophomores who, for the most part, had no prior dance experience. The professor was running them through all kinds of things, and literally turned up the heat so they could test their endurance like they will in summer theme park and outdoor theatre jobs.

After the hour and 20 minute class, the professor sat down with us and we had the nicest chat.  She comforted Annah by saying that most of the music theatre majors come in with singing as their strength and not much dance experience.  She also warmed our hearts by mentioning that there are many churches within walking distance of campus and that she is involved in several of them.  She told us how she has lived and worked all over the country, but came back to NCC because it feels like home and family. 

It was SUCH a perfectly gorgeous day, and we had a wonderful campus tour next!

Old Main

The CAGE is a fast food spot on campus that is open until midnight.  Jeremy said he used to get chocolate shakes here at 11:45 at night after staying up late practicing his trumpet.

Now there is a Papa John's and a MOE's inside!

Pfeiffer Hall 

This cool stage is in the auditorium where Jeremy used to play in NCC concert and jazz band concerts.  It is now one of FIVE performances spaces on campus!

We toured the updated business building and the amazing new science center. Behind Jeremy is the alumni wall of photos.  Downstairs is a digital kiosk that allows you to look up any person in the photos or any activity by year.

The new music building is very beautiful inside and out.

We saw practice rooms, classrooms, a freshman ladies' dorm, the library, the main cafeteria, and more of the small campus.  Then we met with Annah's admission counselor, who happened to be a wrestler. We had a good conversation with him, and we really enjoyed our time on campus.  

Downtown Naperville and many stores and businesses are right next to campus and within easy walking distance. We had an amazing lunch at Rosebud and a great talk about how pleasantly surprised we were with what a good fit NCC could be for Annah. 

After lunch, we walked through downtown Naperville and back to campus. We stopped at the bookstore and bought Annah an NCC t-shirt before heading out.

Jeremy drove us through campus and then showed us how it is narrow campus in a row, but still not a bad walk from one end to the other.  

Good feelings all around.  I'm sure we will be back for another visit!
