Although we woke up to at least 5 inches of snow on the ground this morning (and still coming down!), we couldn't miss Caeden's first wrestling tournament! The boys headed out by 7:00 a.m., and us girls followed behind a couple hours later. We arrived and managed to find a place to park just in time to see Caeden's first match.
Caeden lost his first match of the day, but wasn't defeated in spirit. They boy he wrestled was really tough, but Caeden held his own, didn't give up, and would NOT let him pin him. He did a great job getting out any time he got close to being on his back.
In his second match, he wrestled a boy on his own team. (I'm told this is normal for tournaments with this many kids wrestling.) Caeden pinned him in less than a minute!
There were probably about 800 people there. The gym couldn't hold them all!
The girls and I weren't able to get close to any of Caeden's matches, but Jeremy was out on the mat with Caeden (and the other Falcon team wrestlers) all day, coaching and encouraging them.
There was some confusion between Caeden and another boy in his age/weightclass named Caden (whose last name also started with "Lo"), and this caused a mixup in which Caeden ended up wrestling the boy who beat him in his first match of the day again for his third match. Caeden didn't even score on him this time, and was pretty discouraged about that afterwards. Still, we were proud of him for keeping on and not giving up in the match!
After a while, the mixup of Caeden L. and Caden L. was corrected, and they arranged a 4th match for them to wrestle each other. Our Caeden won! He was very happy, and not even tired after 4 matches in the day. (I don't know what is every going to wear this boy down!)
Caeden was SO excited to get a 2nd place trophy, and all of us were very proud of him.
I love that Jeremy has stressed to him that the most important thing is to have fun. If he's not having fun, he's not going to continue doing it. So far, he is having a blast! He is learning a lot about the sport and being disciplined, getting to have some good QT with his daddy and learn from his example, making new friends, and having a good attitude.
