It rained in the night, so the day started out cool and wet. We started out finding out way to the Benzie County Chamber of Commerce to get info and coupons for activities in the area. We chose a few and set out for some adventures...
The first place we stopped was Bee Dazzled, a family beekeeping cottage and shop. It was tucked away along a quiet road.
We could see the bees going in and out of the hive.
We checked out the shop, full of candles, soaps, and other natural items made on the farm.
A lady was working in the shop, but no one was demonstrating the beekeeping, so our visit was short.
Our next stop was Gwen Frostic's shop. It was fascinating! She built it herself on a wildlife sanctuary on the Betsie river, and it is a building of entirely natural items--stones, glass, wood, blended together naturally.
This part of the building made me think of a hobbit's home!

I loved the pinecone owls.
In the display room, which has a huge fireplace and natural fountain, we saw 12 Heidelberg presses printing items using Gwen Frostic's original printing blocks. Throughout the shop are items including her artwork for sale--notepapers, books, postcards, calendars, bags, coasters, and many other items.
This was Gwen's workshop and library, overlooking the backyard full of nature's inspirations.
From the time we entered, the place reminded me of my own Grandpa Mc's artwork and love of nature.
We chose to buy some coasters of Gwen's prints, and chose a pack of notecards with a coupon.
Everything was really lovely.
Such a unique and cozy place. Gwen Frostic was surely a fascinating lady.
