Two weeks ago, we had a horrible basement flood. We've had many over the years, but it had been a couple years since we'd had trouble with water coming in. This was one of the worst floods, and we had a couple feet of water down there. Our hot water heater and furnace both kicked the bucket.
Being spring, we decided not to really address the furnace issue for now...$$$$$
Strangely enough, we had an unseasonably cold week last week! But we just used our electric blankets to keep warm. Seriously, electric blankets have been one of the best investments for our family!
The real adventure of the last 2 weeks has been living without any hot water! We have talked with more than 5 different plumbing businesses about getting a tankless water heater installed. We knew it would cost more than a regular tank, but knowing that our basement flooding is chronic, it would've been daft to put another tank in to drown in a future flood. After the 5th, we finally received a quote on a tankless that made more sense, but we still had to wait 5 more days before they could order it and come out to install it!
Today was the day, and we now have this cool tankless water heater installed up on a wall in the highest room of our basement! Hallelujah!
It has been an emotionally challenging couple of weeks, I will say. Not only did our water heater and furnace quit, but Jeremy's car has problems so major that his regular mechanic won't fix them because it would cost more than the car is worth. The Prius needs new brakes and has a sensor going lighting/dinging every time we turn a corner. About $20,000 worth of stuff has gone wrong in the past 2 weeks, and it's a lot to take in.
Being without hot water has humbled us, for sure. The kids have been great and have not complained about going a couple/few days between showers.
Our dear friend Tracie has allowed us to come down to her house to shower as often as we needed. She even made us a key and told us to come whenever we needed--even if she wasn't home. She has a family of her own, and allowed us to disturb them in the wee hours of the morning and night. It has been a godsend, and I have no idea how to thank or repay her for the kindness.
Tracie told me that we owe her nothing, and that they are so glad they could help us in our time of need. While were texting back and forth about it, she said she always tells her kids to be "worker bees" and helpers anytime they can. And she found this...
Thank you, Jesus, for always providing for us, and for blessing us with friends who help us!!!
