We had a great crowd for our opening night! Most of the cast went out to IHOP in Bloomington after the show. Jeremy drove the girls, and then several of the kids decided they needed to go to Walmart after eating. Not sure that was necessary, but it sounds like they had fun.
We were all back at the school for another show this evening. The girls and I got there at 3:00, and they started their makeup. I plugged in the hot curlers and then went up to the gym to reset all the audience chairs.
The actors arrived at 4:00 for hair and makeup.
Poor Evan just really doesn't enjoy mascara.
We all help each other get ready...Sylvia doing Briahnna's Trixie hair...
Taylor doing Tyler's Agent Muledeer makeup
Ryleigh becoming Ella
Alexis becoming Inspector Badham, James becoming Bud, and Annah becoming Madame
At 5:00 the crew arrived upstairs and made sure everything was set in the gym and onstage. They also enjoyed Zach's playlist of Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas on repeat. At 6:00 all actors were to be in costume and meet in the gym for mic checks. Zach had them read from the Gettysburg Address, Bill of Rights, and other historical U.S. documents for mic checks.
The scene at Madame's house was very rough in our performance last night, and almost 3 minutes of dialogue and important details were dropped from the show. I had asked the 4 actors in the scene to run it before the performance and they hadn't. I asked them again today to make sure they rehearsed it before mic checks, and they didn't. It was a very frustrating situation to me when I finally got them to go on stage to run through the scene and they were messing around. Instead of yelling at them, I walked away and hoped they decided to get serious. They finally did, and the scene went much better in performance tonight.
After mic checks, we went back downstairs for theatrical warm-ups. The emotion party is always a favorite with these kids. Tonight they were reacting with various emotions and speaking the phrase, "Senora Lovitt stinks." She was amused, and found it all in good fun.
The crew played their own game, a little afraid to participate in the emotion party.
We did do the energy circle with the entire cast. Some of the upper classmen got a little emotional thinking about the seniors' last fall play performance.
The crew went up to get in places at 6:30, and the actors did some rhythmic exercises and some singing.
And some relaxing...
Jalen on the north spotlight
RJ on the south
Zach, Alexis, and Justin did a great job running sound.
And, our final performance went very well.
Here is the VIDEO of the Saturday performance:
