Today was the day--ILMEA All-District (3) Festival Concerts! Jeremy took the girls and a neighbor boy into ISU early this morning so they could rehearse with their ensembles all morning. Thankfully, he came home and took Caeden and me back to town later...We drove in white-out conditions and it took us a while to get to town in the snow. It really was quite a mess, and the temperature dropped rapidly too. (When we came out of the concerts at night, our car doors were frozen shut!)
This afternoon at 2:30, the junior high concert began with the band. Sylvia auditioned for both the choir and the band, but students can only participate in one group. She was thrilled to get to play her horn in this band, and it was quite an honor for all of these students to have this opportunity. For example, Sylvia said there were between 35-40 who auditioned on horn, and there were 9 chosen. It was a fantastic ensemble! I've never heard a junior high band play so beautifully, and even the tone quality of the soloists was great!
The Junior Band opened the concert with The Star Spangled Banner.
Voyage to the Edge of the World
Sylvia's favorite of their pieces was Red Covered Bridge. (My favorite too.)
Nevermore tells the story of Edgar Allan Poe's work of the same name.
We waited in the auditorium during the hour between concerts, and were able to see a bit of the Senior High Chorus rehearsal.
We saw Annah one row down from the top, 5 girls in...
The first piece the 158-voice chorus performed was Annah's favorite. (Mine too.)
The ladies of the choir performed this piece. (The gentlemen had their own piece too.)
Both Annah and Sylvia thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the day, and are so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from the wonderful directors and with other talented students. We certainly enjoyed watching/hearing the performances!
