Today in the car on the way to church Sylvia said, "Everybody listen! I have something to say!"
We all got quiet and she said, "Mommy, my heart is full of love for our family."

Caeden's 3rd Birthday!
Caeden is THREE years old today!!!
Sunday we had a birthday party for him, which was tons o' fun! Caeden chose a basketball theme for his party this year, which was easy to do (happy mommy) and cute. Caeden was so overwhelmed with excitement when he saw all the decorations and presents! I think he couldn't believe it was all for him! He kept saying, "Look at all these things!" and going around in circles like he couldn't take it all in at once! He said, "It's my birthday! I'm so happy!" and just grinned and jumped all over! He was definitely on sensory overload, as Grandpa said! We all enjoyed watching his excitement and happiness!
Blogger is giving me some troubles because of the settings I chose for this post, so I'm just going to record some basics here...

boy sleep
I think Caeden is funny when he sleeps. He hasn't been wanting to take naps lately, even though he still needs them. Most days I have to go back upstairs several times and make him go back to bed. This is what I found today when I tried to wake him up at 5:15p.m. so he'd sleep tonight...
evidence of play before sleep...toys on floor...who would agree that he was jumping on the bed? ;)

Tiny Souls in My Care
Sometimes I forget how little the kids are. Especially Sylvia and Caeden. Maybe it's because I'm too busy thinking about how quickly they grow up, and I just assume they're bigger than they really are. Maybe it's me not paying close enough attention.
Whatever it is, I am sometimes given this divine moment where I look at one of them and realize how truly small and dependant they are.
And I am reminded in these moments how much they need me.
I pray I am/will be the mother, the example, the provider they need. I know these abilities come to me directly from my Heavenly Father, and I know too often I forget to look to Him for these strengths!
This morning, as I was getting ready to take Sylvia to preschool, I looked at her with her bib overalls, stuffed animals, thumb-sucking, and bright pastel jacket and realized how small she really still is.
And if Sylvia is still this small, Caeden is even smaller.
I have been SO incredibly frustrated and impatient with him these past few weeks.
This morning's moment of realization helped me see that my frustration is my own fault. Not excusing his disobedient tantrum-filled behavior, I realize that some of it is my lack of connecting, interacting, and patiently teaching him intentionally enough. He needs me to SHOW him the right way by example, not to get angry with him when he can't figure it out himself.
Lord, please constantly remind me of my purposes as a mother, and guide me as I guide them.

Annah the Scientist
Annah has started Science class at school. I'm excited for her, because she loves to learn about how things grow and are made and so forth.
Today, her science assignment was to sit outside in one spot and count how many of each squirrel, tree, tulip, and bird she saw. She felt pretty smart, I think.

Quick random list update of what's been/is/will be going on w/ us...
-The girls had allergic reactions to mosquito bites they got while we were in Indiana. They both had swelling around where they were bitten. Annah's leg swelled up about twice it's normal size! Then a couple days later, they both were really sick. (We'll just say it was "stomach-related.") We were a bit afraid it was West Nile Virus, but the doctor said they were okay. We learned quite a bit about West Nile, and they got better.
-Now the girls stomachs are bothering them again. It must be flu or something this time. Ugh.
-I started 2 piano students last week. They are brothers, and I am going to their house to teach them. As they are friends from church, they allow me to bring the kids along if I need to! We're having lessons on Saturday mornings.
-Busy trying to clean and prepare for Caeden's birthday party this weekend!
-Caeden is starting to do better with potty training. If I get him to sit on the toilet, he will almost always go. Sometimes he'll go in on his own. He always says, "You go out of here. I don't need you!" and then he'll call me when he's done. He's not done well with underwear yet though.
-Annah is having fun with the children's Christmas musical at church. The show is great and really fun.
-Jeremy went to Indiana last weekend. Spent Friday doing yardwork, ripping down a shed, and doing stuff at his parents' house. He met a bunch of his State Farm friends from Ohio on Saturday and went to the Purdue vs. Ohio State football game in Lafayette. He still has no voice from cheering so much!
-I started helping with the preschool class on Sunday mornings. Haven't been in there in a while. Last week didn't go well (I ended up with 14 preschoolers all by myself! Not good.), but I am excited to be in with these kids again.

Celebrating My Mom -- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
My mom is an amazing woman. God blessed me incredibly giving me her for a mother. And, I am so thankful that she is now Gram to my kids, and able to do everything else she does--which is a LOT! She is one of the very most caring people I know, and is always thinking of others.
